Visiting Mexico has always been on my bucket list, so when Leon told me that we are going to Mexico I packed immediately.  The Temple of Kukulcan Chichen Itza was waiting for me and I could not wait to climb the temple of Kukulcan.   I just want to warn you it is a lot of walking so take plenty of water with you, use your sunblock and wear a hat.  Getting there is very easy, there is regular busses running from Cancun, but in our case we stayed over in Valladolid which is a bit nearer.

The temple dominates the whole site of Chichen Itza that is situated in the center of it all.  It was built by the pre-Columbian Maya Civilization.   Chichen Itza is also one of the new seven wonders of the world and a UNESCO world heritage site.   Never  in my life did I think that 91 steps are so steep.  Each of the four sides of the temple has 91 step so that gives you a total of 364 step.  Each step represent a day in the calender year.  Unfortunately you can no longer climb these steps. There are two Cenotes on site.  The first one is the Xtoloc Cenote just before the temple.  After the temple you have to walk through the ceremonial walkway to get to the Sagrado Cenote.

What is there to see?

Starting with the Visitor centre grab yourself a map of the layout and start walking.  The following ruins are waiting for you.  Venus platform, Jaguar Temple, Bearded Man Temple, Tzompantli, Juego de Pelota, Table Temple, Los guerreros temple, Mil Columnas, Steambath, Market, Caracol, Iglesia, Hidden Writing House, Nun House, Red House, Deer Temple, Ossuary and the Chacmool in the sunlight is mesmerizing.
