Tiger Cave Temple situated near Krabi in Thailand
Tiger Cave Temple Krabi not for the faint of heart
After breakfast at the hotel our tour guide for the day picked us up and took us to The Tiger Cave Temple Krabi. As we arrived we entered a cave filled with Buddhas and monks. This is a Buddhist temple one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in Thailand. There is also a tiger paw print inside that is well known.
After visiting the cave there is a strenuous flight of stairs to reach the summit. There is only one staircase with 1237 steps uphill and remember, what goes up must come down. We all decided to climb the stairs an oh my hat did I fail. I made step nr 300 and turned around. Leonelle made nr 1000 and Leon en Bernhardt finished it all. Good for them, but for me it was not easy.
On top of the hill there is a 360 degree view of Krabi Town and a large golden Buddha Statue. After getting your breath back you can start the down hill. Set aside half a day to visit this site if you plan to do the steps because it can take a bit of time climbing up and getting down.
History has it that a monk went to the site in 1975 to meditate and it caught his attention that there were tigers roaming around this cave. His discovery let to naming the cave Wat Tham Seua. There is also another rumour going around that there was actually a huge tiger that lived in this cave. After discovering the Tiger Paw Print on the wall the were convinced of naming it Wat Tham Seua.
