Wat Tham Khao Luang Petchaburi

Wonderful Wat Tham Khao Luang Cave Petchaburi

The taxi ride from Bangkok to Petchaburi takes about 2 hours. There is also a train and bus service to this little village south of Bangkok, but a taxi was the quickest option as we did not have a lot of time on our hands. At first I was a bit doubtful wasting half a day to go this Wat Tham Khao Luang cave that nobody hardly knows, oh boy was I wrong.  This site is underrated and lack tourists.  My breath was taken away. Why’s there not thousands of tourist and why does hardly anybody notice this attraction?  This is a must see when visiting Thailand.

At the bottom of the hill there is a lady sitting at a small table, umbrella shading her from the sun with a small petty cash box selling entrance tickets. Then it is walking up hill to the site, lucky for us there was a guy that gave us a lift. When arriving at the site there is a swimming pool filled up only half way for all the monkeys.  The stairway to the main entrance is full of monkeys and then you get to this amazing cave filled with Buddhas.

Once you are inside the cave, you can be assured that the furry creatures will not be bothering you for now, it’s as if they have respect towards the religion and site. Inside I get a calm spiritual feeling. This is also a asylum and opportunity for the locals to connect with a higher being. The cave is filled with Buddhas from massive to very small ones.  They are everywhere.

Did you know that:

King Rama IV used this cave to study Buddhism. He reigned the kingdom from 1851 – 1868. He also places a lot of Buddha images in the cave.

I am a mother of two, wife to an amazing husband, travel freak, homemade cook. In my free time, I always decorate something, read books, or do gardening. My favorite coffee spot is any coffee spot as long as it is at an airport. I just love airports.
