Hi there! I’m Enzelle – a foodie, traveler, wife to Leon, mother of Leonelle and Lerika, animal lover, writer, and storyteller passionate about life’s little adventures.
In my free time, I always decorate something, read a book, work in the garden, or try to irritate Leon. The best way to pass the time is to visit any airport
, sitting there drinking coffee and wondering where everyone is going. I adore just something about the atmosphere.
Whether it’s tasting exotic dishes on a far-off island or grilling up some smoky magic at home, I’m here to share it all with you.
Eating Tourist® is where my love for food, travel, and lifestyle comes to life. I want to help everyone find confidence in getting on that airplane, traveling the world, eating different food(no bugs), cooking their meals, and enjoying it out there. This space is not just a website; it’s a peek into my world – a place where new recipes sizzle, cultures collide, and creativity sparks joy. Grab your coffee (or wine!) and join me on this journey.
I was born in the Western Cape and finished school in Brandfort-Freestate (such a fantastic community), where I learned to love sports and played netball and athletics. I sometimes tried tennis.
After school, I went to do some au pair work in Belgium for a year, and that’s when I started enjoying chocolate. Oh boy, I ate a lot of chocolate. Then, I studied Marketing, Public Relations, and Tourism Management while working part-time in my dad’s restaurant. The idea of learning languages fascinates me, and while studying, I had the opportunity to learn some German. Afrikaans is my native language, and English is compulsory when I go to school in South Africa.
After all my studies, I got back on an airplane and flew to Scotland with a very dear friend of mine (Annetjie), and there we worked in a hotel for 8 months and, on weekends, explored as much as possible of this beautiful country. After Scotland, I traveled to southern England, where I did all types of freelance work for about 2 years and returned home to South Africa.
At the age of 24, I opened my first little restaurant, which expanded to 3; finally, 16 years later, I sold it all, and here I am.
Raised in South Africa, I’ve always had an insatiable curiosity for exploring new places and savoring unique flavors. From the bustling markets of Bangkok to the sunny shores of the Western Cape, my adventures are rooted in discovering the heart of different cultures through food and experiences.
When I’m not working on my blog or selling my signature Eating Tourist Braai Sauce – you’ll also find me either in the garden, eating cheese, trying out good wines, or planning my following extensive travel itinerary (usually with a cup of tea and way too many ideas!)
If there’s one thing South Africans know how to do, it’s a proper braai! And that’s precisely where my Eating Tourist Braai Sauce was born. Inspired by my travels and love for global flavors, this sauce adds a little zing to any BBQ – whether you’re grilling in the bushveld or on a beach in Strand.
Food is a universal language, and I believe every meal tells a story. Whether it’s homemade fudge, brownies, or a simple family dinner, ultimately, I love sharing food that brings joy and connection.
I believe the best way to experience a culture is through its food and people. Travel has always allowed me to recharge, learn, and connect with others. Some of my favorite places to explore are:
Traveling isn’t just about seeing new places – it’s about finding inspiration in every corner and bringing that spark back home. Trust me, I have no shortage of funny travel stories to share!
At Eating Tourist, the dream is always growing! My goals include:
