Beng Mealea is also a mysterious temple

This Spectacular Angkor Wat period temple is a sight to behold and is located 77km from Siem Reap and called Beng Mealea Temple, Cambodia.

Beautiful Roots at the Beng Mealea Temple, Cambodia

I must say that you could see the disappointment on my face🤔 when noticing the lack of tourists. To me, this is one of the most precious, most beautiful ruined temples ever.

It was built as a Hindu temple and what I have noticed was some Buddhist motifs carved here and there on the walls.

The cold sandstone ruin is largely unrestored and nature has run riot. The trees and roots are taking over and this gives you the impression of an ideal spot for a scary movie. I can just see all the mummies lurking out of all the dark corners – just kidding. There was nothing spooky about this temple at all, maybe mysterious, interesting, and mesmerizing, but not spooky at all.

Beng Mealea was constructed on a large scale, the central tower has collapsed, but the library is well-preserved. Everywhere you find loose sandstone blocks as the walls, interior and exterior collapsed, so be careful when climbing on top of the heap of rocks.

BENG MEALEA IS A MUST TO SEE – PLEASE ADD THIS TO YOUR BUCKET LIST

I can just imagine this beautiful site surrounded by water many many moons ago. Now run dry and covered with grass and stones. The causeways have long balustraded formes by bodies of the seven-headed Naya Serpent.

Did you know the UNESCO WORLD Heritages added this site to its list in March 2020?

I could just sit on a rock, drink my water, and take in all the fresh air. The air is so clean, you can smell all the different tree leaves, flowers and it is quite furthermore magical.

We only paid 5USD to visit this temple excluding transport. We arranged transport with our hotel reception in Siem Reap to take us there. Transport is widely available also so friendly and helpful.

So, next time when visiting Cambodia, try and make a day trip to this beautiful site besides sunbathing next to the hotel pool.

I am a mother of two, wife to an amazing husband, travel freak, homemade cook. In my free time, I always decorate something, read books, or do gardening. My favorite coffee spot is any coffee spot as long as it is at an airport. I just love airports.
